The Changing Role of the Marketer

February 7, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

$40 – $399

Appetizers and a Wine Included

As technology and consumer behaviour continue to evolve, organizations are putting more and more expectations on their marketing team.  It begs the question – what is the role of the marketer in today’s world?  Is “marketing” even the correct term any more?

Join us and our panel of experts on Wednesday, February 7 as the Calgary Marketing Association launches our new Panel and Power Hour series. Participants will get the opportunity to learn from our experts but also brainstorm these challenges with the peers at their table.  It’s a chance to learn, network and participate in one of 2018’s top marketing challenges.

Entry Level Marketers:

Have a better understanding of areas that are in demand and where there is potential for growth or new job opportunities

Mid Level Marketers:

Learn how your strengths fit into today’s dynamic marketing environment and how it can help propel you to the next level

Senior Level Marketers:

How do you stay on top of changes, without burning out yourself and your staff and more so harness these changes to propel your company forward?

Your Panel

Suelyn Howe

Suelyn heads up the marketing for the advertising business at Microsoft across Canada. Her experience has seen her working in-house and agency side with the likes of Ogilvy and Edelman in China, Singapore and now Canada. Suelyn has been with Microsoft for over 4 years in a variety of roles from PR to Sales to Marketing.

The relationship consumers have with technology, and their evolving levels of comfort fascinates Suelyn. The thought of what, AI, IoT and machines, can do for productivity and brands puts marketers in a position to do brilliant things, or miss the boat completely.

Johnny Russo

Johnny Russo is the Associate Vice President of Digital Marketing and Ecommerce with Mark’s.  He has over 13 years of Digital Marketing and Ecommerce experience in the retail, manufacturing, mobile, and software sectors. Johnny is energetic and passionate about the Ecommerce and Digital Marketing fields, and is always obsessively trying to optimize and improve upon the online and omni-channel customer experience. He believes vendors are partners, and the IT and finance departments are friends (usually).

Ryan Gill

Ryan is the CEO of Communo – a whole new operating model for marketers.   His legacy as a pioneering thinker has blossomed from pushing pixels, to pushing forward what marketing actually means. He also founded The Gathering in 2012.

In his “spare time” he has managed to co-author three editions of Fix: Breaking The Addiction That’s Killing Brands, Cult’s thought leadership book that’s changing the way CEOs and CMOs see the marketing function.

Vincent Duckworth

Vincent has been a leader in the nonprofit sector for two decades. He is the chief marketing officer and a partner at western Canada’s largest fundraising agency, the ViTreo Group. In Calgary, the ViTreo Group’s clients include the National Music Centre, the RESOLVE Campaign, and YMCA Power of Potential campaign.

Vincent is widely acknowledged as the Canadian expert on philanthropic naming and is also the host of the monthly Braintrust Philanthropy podcast.  He has seen first hand how the role of the marketer has evolved in the nonprofit sector.
